Q. What is CarpetSaver made of?
A. CarpetSaver is made of a 75% cotton 25% polyester blend terry, flame laminated to a thin, open-cell foam backing. There are no adhesives or bindings, so it can be easily cut with sharp scissors, anytime. It's 1/8" thick and weighs 1 lb per 7 feet for the 30" wide. It's soft, completely flexible to be rolled or folded and stowed compactly.
Q. Does it really stay in place... it won't walk?
A. CarpetSaver stays put remarkably well thanks to friction of foam to carpet. However it is not nailed down and is subject to wrinkling. To resolve in seconds, pick up two corners and let some air under it as with a bed cover or such. Walking on CarpetSaver helps create static cling also keeping it in place.
Q. Does it interfere with foot traffic?
A. As with any floor protection item, reasonable care needs
to be given when walking across an edge. With CarpetSaver on a flat surface, it's possible to occasionally catch an edge with
your foot. Take special care not to have an end sitting at the top
of a staircase. Start the runner on the first step down, or else
a few feet on the flat floor BEFORE reaching the first step down.
Q. What about on stairs?
A. CarpetSaver really shines on stairs! Simply line carpeted stairs, allowing unimpeded traffic flow. It takes a couple minutes but it sure is nice to walk on! Yes, if you're wondering, you may occasionally need to smooth it out. Note: If each of your carpeted stairs have quite a pronounced 'overhang' the runner will indeed 'hang' out a bit. While it will work, some people have said they do not care for the look. On bare, non carpeted stairs, CarpetSaver must be secured. A tack should be placed about 2" from each edge, on the flat step just in front of the riser. To protect carpeted steps with no risers (floaters) simply cut individual pieces of CarpetSaver and wrap snug around each stair. You will need to secure the two ends underneath the stair. Remove and wash as needed.
Q. Will it damage delicate surfaces?
A. The soft foam backing and cotton blend surface will not damage carpet, fine flooring and furniture.
Important note for use on Hardwood:
If your CarpetSaver gets heavily soaked while on hardwood, you’ll want to remove it and line dry, also allowing the floor to dry. If left in place, a very wet runner on hardwood tends to stay wet and will damage some hardwoods.
Q. Will it fray or pull when cutting?
A. Not at all. There are no bindings or adhesives. CarpetSaver can be easily trimmed with
sharp scissors, even after many washes. Or, use a box cutter with a fresh blade, FOAM SIDE UP. As a guide, use either straight edge, or mark a line on the foam.
Q. Does the foam fall apart when washed?
A. No, the foam holds up well because it is porous - not
rubbery. For longevity, avoid excessive washing. Just shake out
loose dirt and debris between washes. After many washes, the edges
may fray or foam may start to separate from fabric. To remove rough
edges, simply cut off about 1/2 inch along the side, leaving you
with a clean edge. Use sharp scissors only.
Q. How do I best store my CarpetSaver?
A. It's best of course, to shake it out before storing.
The best method is rolling it into a tube shape. This will provide
a very compact package, as well as making it simple to roll out
again in seconds. Folding your runner is fine but may leave temporary
crease marks.
Q. Will it be a problem with pets around?
A. Pets usually like the soft texture of CarpetSaver so they don’t steer away!
See our pet page for all the good news. There is a product called “Pet Hair Eliminator"
that does a wonderful job of letting you almost ‘brush away’ hair both from CarpetSaver and of course clothing fabrics, furniture and car upholstery.
Q. What about outdoor use?
A. It has many outdoor uses... such as on a wet, slick
deck or a sidewalk to help prevent slips; perfect for workmen tracking
dirt and mud in and out. Makes a great mat for picnics, while gardening
or at the beach. Use it anywhere that you need a clean, soft textured
surface. We know, we know, where has this thing been all our lives!?
Secure it on a windy day!
Q. Is it OK to vacuum CarpetSaver?
A. Since CarpetSaver is lightweight, only about 1/8" thick, it can get pulled into a vacuum. Avoid the rotating brushes! If possible, raise the height so they are away from the runner, or use a bare floor attachment without the pesky rotating brush. Test carefully. A hand held buster is fine for small areas or stairs. THE BEST thing we’ve seen, and it could have been made for CarpetSaver users, is the Swivel Sweeper. It’s around $40 and is a re-chargeable, lightweight product that we can’t say enough about. Naturally, it’s good for other parts of the house too, for quick cleanups, and great on bare floors, so easily justifiable in our opinion!
Your suggestions are welcome, this isn't an exact science.
Q. Is it OK to tape pieces together?
A. Sure. If you wish to secure two pieces, line them up flush to each other and place a wide, low quality packing tape directly over the seems' length, on the terry. Tape should be about 2" wide, so 1" is on each piece. Do not tape the foam underneath, because it will severely rip the foam when removing it. Same goes for taping the runner to a floor. Tape the edge on the top, terry side...part on the terry, part on the floor.
Q. Will it stay picture perfect all the time?
A. Photos are nice, but CarpetSaver is light weight and is subject to wrinkling or slight edge curls. Smooth out as needed...Overall though, it lays flat and stays in place.
Q. How do I become a reseller?
A. Call 1 800-442-0331
Good To Know
CarpetSaver breathes so moisture in the carpet
below easily evaporates, preventing mildew. It's especially useful
over damp or freshly shampooed carpets. Go ahead, shampoo the rugs
and lay CarpetSaver over it for the few times you
must walk there until it dries.
BARE FLOORING--
Had enough of slick bare floors when coming in with wet shoes? Tired of mopping up after wet track marks?
Roll out CarpetSaver for wet weather traction. It provides you the grip you want-- a non skid surface that ‘s especially helpful anytime shoes are even a little wet. Keeps floors clean while preventing slips, (remember the pet section?) Note; due to its light weight, it will easily move if grabbed or pulled without applying pressure. We think you’ll find slick floors are suddenly safer and more easily kept clean. (In fact, a well kept secret is that CarpetSaver was developed for linoleum floors.)
If CarpetSaver gets soaked through, especially on wood, remove and allow to air dry. Otherwise it may stay wet for extended periods, possibly damaging hardwood.
